What We Do
Purdue Extension is a service tailored to meet the needs of Indiana, needs we know firsthand. Our educators, specialists, and volunteers live and work in all 92 Indiana counties. We provide the link between Land Grant research and Indiana citizens. In doing that we provide practical solutions to local issues. Purdue Extension of Adams County provides educational programs and research based information in:- 4-H Youth Development
- Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Consumer and Family Sciences
- Economic and Leadership Development
Health and Human Sciences
Consumer and family Sciences provides informal educational programs that increase knowledge, influence attitudes, teach skills and inspire aspirations. Through the adoption of application of these practices, the quality of individual, family and community life is improved. Specific programs include but are not limited to: Food Safety, Serve Safe Certification Course, Dining with Diabetes, Have a Healthy Baby, Professor Popcorn, MyPyramid, Living Well for Life and much more.4-H Youth Development
The 4-H Youth Development program is the only federally authorized youth serving organization. It is also the largest youth serving organization in the country. It is a volunteer-lead organization that reaches youth through a variety of programs in both rural and urban settings. 4-H provides fun, educational opportunities at the local state, national and international levels. 4-H programs are hands-on, age-appropriate, and university -based. 4-H helps youth improve their self-confidence; learn subject matter; and develop important skills including leadership, citizenship, communication and decision-making that can be applied over a lifetime. For older teens, 4-H also offers opportunities to develop and test their leadership skills as 4-H volunteers and working with youth. For adults, 4-H offers opportunities for training in a variety of areas including youth development, instruction and more.Agriculture & Natural Resources
The Extension Agriculture program provides the latest scientific information in production, management, and marketing to urban, suburban and rural people. Continuous educational programs with all segments of the economy including consumers, agricultural producers and distributors are offered. Education and training assistance is given to individuals and businesses with agriculture-related needs and interest.
Nutrition Education Program
The Family Nutrition Program teaches practical skills such as basic money management, food safety, food preparation and shopping skills. The Family Nutrition Program is Free to those interested in participating. Education may be provided on an individual basis or group setting. Collaborating agencies include: Division of Family and Children Services, Head Start, EvenStart, Job Works, Love, Inc., Decatur and Berne Seniors, Crisis Shelter, Boys and Girls Club and Healthy Families.Adams County Extension Homemakers
