The Board of Commissioners consists of 3 Commissioners elected to four year terms at the General Elections. Each Commissioner represents a specific district of Adams County. Currently the elected Commissioners are:

The Board of Commissioners serve as the Executive and legislative authority for the County. Their statutory duties include:

  • Supervision of the County road system
  • Supervision of the construction and maintenance of county Bridges
  • Management of all county property
  • Auditing and authorization of all county claims
  • Receiving bids and authorizing county contracts
  • Appointments to boards, commissions, committees and unelected department heads
  • Final approval County Building Regulations & Planning Commissions Regulations
  • Cooperation with all County Offices
  • Preparing the portion of the County Budget the Commissioners exercise control over
  • Providing county Fair and 4-H Projects in partnership with Purdue University
  • Preserving cemeteries having in conjunction with Township Government
  • Providing park and recreation facilities
  • Provide for Emergency Ambulance Service
  • Leasing or rental of County Owned ground for purposes of mining, farming or gas and oil exploration.
  • Serve on the Adams County Drainage Board

The Commissioners also are responsible for appointing or awarding contracts for the leadership of the following Departments:

The Adams County Commissioners meet each Monday for the public meeting at 1:30 PM in the Commissioner/Council Room, Room #100, located in the Adams County Service Complex at 313 West Jefferson Street Decatur. The Commissioners have unofficial office hours from 9:00 AM on Mondays until the public meeting time.
