The Board of Commissioners serve as the Executive and legislative authority for the County. Their statutory duties include:
- Supervision of the County road system
- Supervision of the construction and maintenance of county Bridges
- Management of all county property
- Auditing and authorization of all county claims
- Receiving bids and authorizing county contracts
- Appointments to boards, commissions, committees and unelected department heads
- Final approval County Building Regulations & Planning Commissions Regulations
- Cooperation with all County Offices
- Preparing the portion of the County Budget the Commissioners exercise control over
- Providing county Fair and 4-H Projects in partnership with Purdue University
- Preserving cemeteries having in conjunction with Township Government
- Providing park and recreation facilities
- Provide for Emergency Ambulance Service
- Leasing or rental of County Owned ground for purposes of mining, farming or gas and oil exploration.
- Serve on the Adams County Drainage Board

The Adams County Commissioners meet each Monday for the public meeting at 1:30 PM in the Commissioner/Council Room, Room #100, located in the Adams County Service Complex at 313 West Jefferson Street Decatur. The Commissioners have unofficial office hours from 9:00 AM on Mondays until the public meeting time.
